Awakening the Feminine:  A Journey through the Chakras

WorkshopsForWomenThe chakras, “wheels”, are energy centers in our body responsible for health and balance at all levels of our being.   Each chakra has a specific theme or core intention, organized along an evolutionary hierarchy of human needs.  They begin with survival needs and lead towards spiritual transformation.  Each chakra also has a main psychological, social and spiritual archetype, which provide a framework for human evolution and development.

The main archetypes and physio-energetic aspect of each chakra are as follows:

Muladhara (first chakra)-Physical survival, security and grounding.    Base of the body, perineum, large intestine, elimination, coccygeal plexus, adrenal glands, musculoskeletal system, legs and feet, fight or flight.

Swadisthana (second chakra)-Genetic and sexual survival, intimacy. Four fingers below the navel.  Low abdomen, sex organs, reproductive glands, absorption of nutrients in the intestines, hips and pelvis.

Manipura (third chakra)-Social survival, self-esteem, personal power.  Solar plexus area, diaphragm, digestion, pancreas, stomach and liver.

Anahata (fourth chakra)-Altruism, love and compassion. Heart center, respiration and circulation, thymus gland, cardiac plexus, fire and air elements, lungs and heart.

Visuddha (fifth chakra)-Purification, intuition, creativity, inspiration and communication. Throat, thyroid and parathyroid glands, metabolism, chewing and swallowing.

Ajna (sixth chakra)-Spiritual vision, integration with the Higher Self. Third eye, space between the eyebrows, pituitary gland, hypothalamus and areas of the brain related to emotion governing flight or fight response.

Sahasrara (seventh chakra)-Unity Consciousness. Crown of the head, pineal gland, higher centers of the brain, which serve as channels for spiritual realization.

Restoring Wholeness: Reclaiming Body, Sex, Heart and Soul

The journey of healing and recovery includes the exploration of our emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual lives.  However, an integral part of our health is often left out—our sexuality and sexual identity as women. The absence of the discussion on Healthy Sexuality is an impediment to sound self-esteem and an integrated sense of self as a woman.

Women may turn to alcohol, food and other substances after traumatic experiences to numb the pain, and make it easier to access their femininity and capacity for freedom in their sexual expression.

Full exploration of all aspects of self, particularly our sexual identity, enables women to develop a healthy self-esteem and sense of empowerment. Women need an integrated model that supports them in accepting their bodies and feeling good about their genitals, re-establishes healthy boundaries, increases the ability to receive pleasure, and teaches embodiment practices while identifying the impact of female socialization on sexuality.

Female sexuality opens our hearts to love and compassion and teaches us the art of sacred presence. An exploration of a women’s sexuality includes her physical, emotional, mental and spiritual story.  As each woman reclaims her voice and sexuality, she takes part in ending the pervasive cycle of violence within her mind and heart, and ultimately in the world.

Through writing prompts and discussion, we will explore a model of sexuality that includes our emotional, mental, spiritual and physical selves.

You will learn the following objectives:

  • Identify the impact of socialization and trauma on women’s sexuality and spirituality
  • Learn an integrative model for exploring sexuality and intimacy
  • Learn embodiment practices and exercises from Somatic Experiencing
